Yahoo shows OSX some love

It looks like Yahoo finally gets it. There are OSX users who happen to yearn for an official Yahoo client. The reasons for understanding this yearning are beyond me. Nonetheless, the beta client is out. Download your own beta of Yahoo messenger today. Included features include webcam, file transfer, and Emoticons! There is an additional feature which may receive great amounts of fanfare soon enough: message MSN contacts through Yahoo!
On a similar note, Defaultware’s Proteus is now offered as a free download. Although, the true multi-protocol champion award goes to Adium.

They’ve had an official client for a very long time, and it already supported webcams (the only reason i ever used it over adium). On my MBP it always crashed, though, when SuperWebcam was enabled, so…./shrug…downloaded theis one but haven’t launched it yet, maybe it’ll work better.
I guess I should have stressed the fact that this release is a long deserved update.
While it is a long-deserved update, it’s basically an iChat clone. I was expecting them to be a little more innovative, but sadly no. Adium is still my client of choice.
The real question (for most Europeans) is does the webcam support apply to MSN Messenger chats as well?
I don’t understand what makes you think Proteus is free? I downloaded because of your comment above and they still want $15….what a wast of time. Why bother if Adium does the same job.
The part that hinted that Proteus was free was the title of the website when you open their page. Drop them an email concerning the issue. I tried to load Proteus on my Intel Mac but it refused to open so I have no idea what’s going on with the registration popping up.
