Pay parking meters with a text message

It’s like a double whammy. Pay your parking meter thanks to a text message notification and up your text usage all at the same time. Granted, single text messages aren’t that big of a deal, but they definitely do add up.

Starting now, you can pay parking meters from your cellphone, get a text message warning the meter is about to expire and even top up the meter without going outside.

The city is hoping the service — which officially began Monday — will increase revenue without costing much.

On a similar note, does anyone in the domestic US still see the old single-legged metal heads lining streets? Seattle has gone all solar powered credit carded on us (with the option to use coins of course).

  1. Spokane (the big city on the =other= side of Washington) has the regular, old, boring parking meters. Which is a pain in the ass, since I rarely carry physical money with me, and if I do, it sure as hell isn’t in coin form.

It’s great isn’t it? Coins are those things you make sure to drop into the tip jar at the small corner cafe. Come time to pay for parking, you’re kicking yourself for getting rid of them.

i got a 30 dollar ticket in downtown san jose thanks to not having enough coins on me. BOGUS!

And its SILICON VALLEY for christs sake!
