Pukka – The OSX del.icio.us utility

It isn’t very often that I stumble upon a piece of “pay-for” software that I feel inclined to recommend to any and all users that I can reach out to. Pukka by Code Sorcery just so happens to be one of those elusive bits of software.
Anyone who uses del.icio.us on a daily basis in unison with their daily browsing on OSX should definitely check out this small piece of software. I’ve been running this application for the past two weeks and have a difficult time imagining social bookmarking without.
As a small stand-alone application, Pukka syncs its tags database with that of your own allowing for auto-complete tagging. In addition, Pukka users can manage multiple del.icio.us accounts from the same window. Sending bookmarks to specific accounts is handled by a simple drop down menu.
If your del.icio.us posting habits are beginning to wane, take a few days to demo the app to decide if it’s worth your while. I find myself documenting each bookmarked site as though I were creating small mini blog posts thanks to this kick-ass utility.
Note that UNEASYsilence is in no way affiliated with Code Sorcery. I am simply taking the time to recommend a quality piece of software that just so happens to work beyond expectations.

i think you meant elusive, not illusive
great program though
Potato, tomato :P
amazing software. tried it some time ago, bought it and use it daily, except when browsing with flock.
it’s a must have, also in my opinion.
Thanks for the shout out! I’m glad you like Pukka. Please give me any feedback you have on making it better and I’ll do my best! I too like to think of it as a mini blog post when I’m bookmarking things.
What makes this better than a javascript bookmarklet in my toolbar? I’ve given Pukka two chances over the past couple years, and it always seems to be more work than the bookmarklet. Am I missing something?
Past couple years? I’ve only been working on Pukka since February. You may want to check out the screencast that I put together (about 5 minutes) that shows how Pukka can work with its own bookmarklet. The advantages include no waiting for the del.icio.us pages, multiple account posting, and background posting with optional Growl notification, among other things.
Sorry, here’s the screencast: codesorcery.net/screencast
Yeah….I was using the, um, other version of Pukka. :)
No seriously, I thought I’d tried it before this year, I guess I was thinking of something else. Anyhoo, thanks for the feedback; I’ll check out the screencast.
Ok, I’m all over it now that I’ve got the bookmarklet working. It’s great not to have to wait for the posting page to load. Great, simple utility with exactly the right features and appropriately spare UI.
Any chance we’ll ever see something like the feature that enables us to see what tags other people have used? I do like the suggestion feature del.icio.us itself offers when posting….
When is the PC version coming out? Seems like a must-have piece of software…

Re: the suggestion feature that the site and Firefox plugin do, that stuff is not available through the API, so it involves screen scraping to get those suggestions, which is not incredibly reliable. I’m currently playing around with it, but it’s the kind of thing that if they pages ever change, Pukka could break which becomes a bit of a pain. I’m hoping it comes to the API, but my guess is it’s really rough on the servers/database and they currently don’t want to encourage the use of it that much.
