TiVo has to be the company that everybody loves to hate. With every new feature they roll out it leads to controversy. Sharing of user data, ads when you fast forward, use of DRM. The roll out of a new TiVo desktop is no different. The new version of TiVo desktop 2.3 (WinXP only) further enhances the TiVo to go function by allowing you to convert video to a format playable on the PSP and iPod, as well as improved desktop playback via MPEG-4.

However if you WANT to use those features it will cost you $24.95. The reason for that charge is that TiVo has to sell you codecs to do the conversion.

Honestly TiVo, moves like this forces people to piracy. Apple with iTunes fronts the modest codec license cost for the users with iTunes. So I imagine TiVo users will continue to use ffmpeg and other methods to rid their video of DRM.
