I think it is personal deal for the customers - to have vinyl siding on their houses or not: everyone has his/her own budget and point of view. To declare the ban on siding - bullsh..t. One architect has decided to put his name in History (or make a smart(ass)career move...) What if I want get my cottage a maitenance free house? I fed up with painting, I just wanna hose it up and it will look like new. So instead of spending big bucks, I could cover up my house with vynil for 2-3 thousands and enjoy new look. I can't do it even for a 10 Gs with a bricks! Everyone has their reasons to buy cheap stuff - and everyone dreams about custom made brick/ or stone house. Although the situation is not always in bright colors. Why people buy Ford? Because it is afFORDable. Not reLIEable.
With all respect to respondents,

First off, I can't stand the stuff as a finish for exterior housing. On a few houses, fine, but on every single home, it is just plain ugly. A pet peeve is a front facade of brick or stone with siding on everything else so that from the front the house "appears" one way. This is just plain UGLY!!! Most people don't realize however, that the home costs way less to purchase because of it though. I am in the renovation business where you realize that the exterior finish of your home can almost double it's purchase price. The construction industry will most likely keep up, but the residential homeowner may not be able to afford what otherwise might have been a home in their financial range. The consumer must be ready to see house prices escalate.

I wish my whole state would outlaw vinyl siding ... and vinyl windows as well. The plastics industry has done a good sales job. What people do not realize is that plastic is not something that will last like wood or brick or stone. They ruin old houses when they put this stuff on it. Plus, it is ugly, even uglier than aluminum.

This is excellent! That reminds me of a quote from Deconstructing Harry (Woody Allen) where Harry (Allen) who was just sent to hell sees another guy and asks him what he did to get shipped down there, so the guy answers "I invented aluminium siding"... ROFL I laughed for an hour or so...

First, Moncton is a large town at best.
Second, spandex on fat people is uglier than plastic siding.

First, Moncton is not a "small Canadian town." It's a (small) city.
Second, that's awesome. What is uglier than plastic siding?
