Flofox Revisited – Flock Theme for Firefox

Ah, Flock. Haven’t heard about these guys lately. Well they browser (which I feel is a driving wedge in Mozilla’s grab on the throne) entered public beta (Whatever!). Yes, flock has a few bugs and it is not truly 100% compatable with FireFox extensions (Did I mention Flock is a driving wedge?). But that skin is ohhhhhhh so sweet! Now you can have the best of both worlds, the Flock look and feel with the power of FireFox! Not too shabby if you ask me. Now if we could only tame the memory usage :-)

This skin is updated from the old skin which had some bugs. So, now you can run a nearly bug free version of FloFox.

All you need to do is just click this link for the theme just click this UPDATED link for the theme version 0.2and drag the downloaded file to your themes window (after you unzip it of course). Good for any platform.

I hated the tab icon when images were open in new tabs. Those icons were the same width the image you was viewing. Huge tabs used to appear. Let’s see if this fix that…

  2. Ronald Poi says:

Yup. It works good now. Thanks! =)

  3. Floydpink says:

The primary icons (back, next, etc) still do not behave as small icons for me. Enabling small icons makes all other on my menu bar small, but not the primary ones.

Also, there is no dropdown history for the back and forward buttons for me.

    No thanks.

  4. Ronald Poi says:

Didn’t know about the small icons thing… but there is a dropdown for back and forth buttons, you just need to click and hold the button, the menu appears in 2 seconds or less…

  5. miksago says:

    heya all,
just thought i’d let you know, the theme kinda breaks in firefox when you have the new tabbutton enabled via tabmix plus.

    Cheers

  6. Malcolm says:

  9. [...] Flock builds on Firefox. Heck, Flock is Firefox. Sure, it’s got a shiny new theme and integrates Flickr, blogging tools and del.ico.us. But they are still not at a point where it doesn’t feel like it’s FireFox with a theme and those tools stuck on with duct tape? Not yet. But who knows, maybe soon. But I hope they understand this at Flock central â€â€? integration means integration on every level, not just skin deep. [...]

  15. Big Fan says:

This is the best theme I have ever used for Firefox. You should make it available on the Firefox Add-Ons page.

  16. Camelot says:

    Saludos.

Come on mate. Update the theme.

I’m having to use Flock (which is based on Firefox 1.5 and therefore doesn’t have the new features) instead of Firefox 2.0 just because i like the look so much.

  26. Flofox-fan says:

The creator of the theme has stated that he’s on vacation at the moment, but as soon as he gets back at the end of January… he will begin working on the updated Flofox theme.

  29. Phrost says:

I really hope this theme is updated soon. I’ve recently switched over from Opera and love the Firefox browser, and the Flock GUI. Wish I could have the best of both worlds.

  30. Bthechange says:

If you really want to use it for Firefox 2
    1) download the file
    2) rename the JAR file to .ZIP
    3) open up “install.rdf” in a text editor
    4) Change this line:
    1.8
    to something like:
    2.0.0.1
    5) re-zip the folder contents (not the main folder)
    6) rename the .ZIP to .JAR
    7) Done

    It worked for me.

  31. Bthechange says:

Huh, step 4 was supposed to have the “em:maxVersion” comments.

  32. Phrost says:

    Thanks buddy.

  33. Saskia says:

    Thanks Bthechange !!!!

  35. mchasard says:

i just tried to do follow your step to use flofox skin with firefox 2.0.0.2 , so now i don’t have any message concerning the version validity but it doesn’t appear in the new theme …strange so it seems that the installation falls down …
is there a new way to make it work please ?
