Goodbye Coax

Who likes coax cable? It is a clumsy annoying cabling system, the stupid copper pin always falls out, miserable to crimp, simply the bane of my existance. Also, ever try to snake that wire in your house? Its goes wherever it damn well pleases. I want my Cat5 ethernet wire to deliver my TV. The VideoEase CATV Balun was created to save my sanity. It simply converts an ordinary Cat5 cable to a coax cable with one end of the dongle has a standard coaxial connection while the other end has a female RJ45 port. Now I have a use for all my extra patch cords. [via]

$55 Ouch. I think I’ll live with the spaghetti mess of Coax for a few years longer until this kind of stuff comes way down in price.

  2. Dan says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is not IP based, so it’s still just a point to point connection using the conductors in the cat5 cable instead of a coax cable. Therefore it is $55 for a device that simply connects the conductors from the coax to the cat 5, without doing anything to the signal.

Be vary wary of smarthome’s prices, they are generally way overpriced.

mmm. sweet. but yeah. the price is a little steep for a mass produced dongle.. for now i’ll just run my rgb and composite over the Cat 5 anyway.. with my custom adapters… ;)

  4. Philip says:

Are you joking man? 100$ for pair of connectors… no chance

  5. ClaMs says:

C’mon guys, $54.99 isn’t too bad. The site itself says that it’s a ‘Hot Deal’.
