Arrested for virtual muggings

Proof that some online gaming crooks mean business, the New Scientist is reporting that individuals are being mugged online via virtual game characters.

A man has been arrested in Japan on suspicion of carrying out a virtual mugging spree by using software “bots” to beat up and rob characters in the online computer game Lineage II. The stolen virtual possessions were then exchanged for real cash.

While the term “mugging” may not be used in its true sense online, the idea is that players are often being jilted by online bots. Nothing new right?

Have any readers who happen to game online suffered any losses due to bots?
