SmackPad. Not to be outdone by SmackBook

Apple users don’t get to have all the fun. Apparently, IBM ThinkPad users can enjoy the “convenience” of smacking their ‘pads’ to switch desktops. I almost forgot many of the newer IBM shipped its computers with motion sensors to protect their hardrives.

    Requirements:

  • A ThinkPad with the IBM Active Protection System
  • The hdaps kernel module (if sudo modprobe hdaps fails, you’re not qualified)
  • The wnck Python module, provided by gnome-python (if python -c “import wnck” fails, you’re not qualified either)
  • An EWMH compliant window manager (most modern WMs are)
  • The smack.py script

Any [original] black “book” [notebook] users willing to try this one out? If interested, grab the required files and look through the write-up for more details.
