The public download for MySpace’s foray into the instant messanger world is now available for public use. Grab your copy from the official download page. The client closely resembles the appearance of AIM / Gtalk rolled into one. Hat tip to Jeremy.

As with just about everything else in this world, MySpace is what you make of it. I use it for staying in touch with my “real” friends (ie people that I actually know, you know, in real life) and regaining contact with old friends from my youth, high school and college. It’s also an incredibly powerful tool for marketing bands — I can tell you without hesitation that it’s been an incredibly useful thing for us, as we’re an independent band that has two EP’s out, and we have 3,000 friends, and that has led us to score a distribution deal for iTunes, a clothing endorsement, and several guitar endorsement deals.
You just gotta stay away from the seedy underbelly. And Tom. Stay away from Tom and his Asian girl fetish.

I, too, am sad that this isn’t for the Mac. And IE is required?!? But I and a whole bunch of people I know use Firefox to access MySpace, not IE. Maybe AdiumX will grab this protocol and add it to the boatload it already supports. Or someone can write a Firefox extension. hint hint. Oh well…
Er….why, exactly, would you need IE? It’s a standalone application.
But yeah, I do know people who are upset that there’s not a Mac version. Knowing MySpace, I doubt there’ll ever be one, either.

try going to htmate.com then click on myspaceat school. it will automatically go to browse then click ok and you should be on myspace. this not only works for myspace but also for any website that is blocked by your school.
