Mexico: Drugs are no different than bubble gum
Or at least that’s the impression I get after discovering that there is nothing illegal about having small quantities of cocaine, heroine, and marijunana.
Mexico’s Congress on Friday approved a bill decriminalizing possession of small quantities of marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine and even heroin for personal use, prompting U.S. criticism that the measure could harm anti-drug efforts.
“No charges will be brought against … addicts or consumers who are found in possession of any narcotic for personal use,” according to the Senate bill, which also lays out allowable quantities for an array of other drugs, including LSD, ecstasy and amphetamines.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter? US Anti-drug advocates are squirming in their seats with this one.

eat your hearts outs! thats what i call the true land of the free..
If this is your impression, my impression is that you didn’t read the whole article throughly.
“Mexico: Drugs are no different than bubble gum”
Nice try.
This better describes what’s in the article. Not that “bubble gum” thing.
Drug law’s focus: business, not personal

Fuck yea…why put the people who just use away? It wastes our fuckin taxes…stupid politicians
a terrific move in my opinion. No sense in wasting the law on such things. The legal system should be for oh I dunno, human rights violations, financial dishonesty, and such not was people do for kicks or religious experience. The US War on Drugs is probably the biggest waste of tax dollars ever.
So are the two of you implying that similar laws should be passed stateside?
hello
im mexican, and im sorry, but that’s not true… u should investigate before posting
hmmmm maybe all the crack heads and junkies will move to mexico… not a bad move :D
In all seriousness… I wouldn’t want it here in the states just because people being allowed to do heavy drugs in public would make for a lot of uncomfortable situations… can you imagine a guy shooting up heroin next to you while in line at the DMV or something…… it would creep me out, not to mention how they would act once they are tweaked out…
go Mexico!… as for that level of freedom not being taken advantage of here stateside… it doesn’t bother me in the least…
Lol, I could care less about this. Haven’t ever touched drugs, and honestly, i don’t ever intend to.
Yes, I’m implying similar laws should be passed in the U.S. and throughout the world.
Luis, who should do more investigating? I’m merely the messenger picking up on the scent of offbeat news. According to the article on CNN, the bill is one step away from being reality after a signature from President Vicente Fox (who is apparently a supporter of the bill).
And to Chad, the bill is not allowing heavy public usage of narcotics.
hey luis.. guess what.. im mexicn too.. and YOU should investigate before posting…cause the diputados approved that legislation a couple of days ago.. it just happened that our seriously biased journals decided not to make big news about it…

Maybe what Luis is saying is that is there is not that a strict respect for the law in Mexico, and sometimes the authorities just bend them to their will.. or i dunno.. maybe he’s just in a state of denial
Hmm, I wish that I were in possession of a personal amount of marijuana at this very moment…
That’s weird…
Wow, people might be moving INTO mexico.
Mexico isn’t the only one — several provinces in Canada decriminalize marijuana .. Amsterdam, etc.
And, especially Chads .. your post makes me laugh. You have no idea as to the amount of people around you .. combined with the people you interact with daily — are doing *something* to alter their mind’s state…. All types of people, it doesn’t pertain to your job, industry, how much money you make….. In fact, the larger a person’s income (assuming they use drugs) .. very probably influences the amount of drugs that they swallow/push/eat throughout the day … :)
