The Golf is dead, long live the Rabbit

The company announced at the New York Auto Show Wednesday that it will start using the Rabbit name on the car that it has been selling as the Golf since 1984, when the company dropped the Rabbit name in favor a global name plate. The vehicle will still be sold as the Golf outside of North America.
Oh can you feel the nostalgia!
Shouldn’t they worry about getting the product and marketing mix right rather than worry about the name? The Golf name has not been a handicap in the United States. Rather, delaying the introduction of Golf V in the US (a car which other nations have had for nearly two years, and which is a very good product) is hurting Volkswagen of America’s compact sales.
Yep, the ’70s are back.
