Enter URLFan, stage left. URLFan is a new service that ranks web site popularity by the number of times a URL is mentioned in RSS feeds from all over the web.

From their site:

There are many sites designed to rank the “traffic” of a website, such as Alexa, however ://URLFAN is different. We rank sites according to their popularity in the fast moving and growing world of RSS feeds. Unlike Alexa, there is no approximating in our ranking system since we’re using concrete data to generate the results.

I think that URLfan is a great approach to traffic monitoring, and will only grow over time. One piece of advice to the creators, don’t let Google Adwords drive your web-design.

Try it
