This is a REPOSTING of the original article – Which ran on March 21, 2006
UPDATE: A higher quality version has been posted.

After instructions were posted on how to install Windows XP on an Intel Mac loads of questions were asked about the finer parts of the process. So we decided to to a quick walkthrough video of the entire installation process from start to finish to assist our readers.

The video is using the method on onmac.net (which we were a title donator), as well as mirrored here. Developments are always happening by the minute so bookmark http://features.uneasysilence.com/mactel/ to stay up to the minute about new changes and procedures regarding WindowsXP on an Macintosh.

The video is at iPod resolution to cope with the bandwidth, when the demand lessens I will post a higher resolution video.

Really good video — step by step professional instruction, with lots of appropriate contextual comments, warnings, and what to expect at each turn. If whomever did this video doesn’t do this as part of their normal job, they should :)

  9. Dan says:

    Matt,

I don’t do that for my day job. Thank you for the VERY much for the very positive comments!

    Just love helping people.

  10. Eric says:

Will Windows be as fast as a “normal” Windows-Computer?

  11. Dan says:

This is actually the fastest PC I have ever used… Just need to work on the driver issues.

  14. Heinz says:

Is use of XP SP2 mandatory or will a regular XP-Pro work? Anyone tried it?

  15. Ryan says:

How do you play the video?

  16. Touch down says:

Ryan, you can play the video by pressing the STOP BEING A MORON button. And don’t you ask where is that button.

  24. Rick says:

Why would you put XP on an Intel Mac? OS X has a Unix type foundation and a better GUI. I’ve run XP, Win 98, Mac OS 8, OS 9, OS X, umpteen different distros of Linux (Red Hat, Suse, Mandrake,Ubuntu,Gentoo,Yellow Dog, and others), and OS X isthe best GUI out there. It takes a little rethinking if you come from Windows, but take the time (not much) to learn to use OS X and you’ll agree. It networks almost automatically, and security is simple, not to mention viruses and such (almost nonexistant). If you are going to pay for a Mac use a Mac.

  25. Mr_Mischif says:

Do you think Vista’ll be able to be dual-booted onto a Mac too? I would hope so, then I could justify getting one.

  26. Richard says:

The problem is, some programs are only available in Windows versions. As much as I’d like to avoid using Windows, as a Computer Science student, I am forced to in order to run progams like PCSpim, MS Visual Studio (which I am forced to test my programs on), and so on.

I currently have a PowerBook from last May and am planning on buying a new iMac in the next couple months. I have the same question some others asked: What if my official Windows installation cd is just XP Pro, before SP2 came out? Can I not just dl and install SP2 after installation?

Why would you put XP on an Intel Mac?

Because it’s possible. I’ve got a new saying instead of the old”build it and they will come”… “build it and someone will mod it”. :)

  29. Justin says:

Drool at Apple.com for hours -> beg for hours -> iPod Shuffle.

I wonder if the same process will work with a macbook :) but then again, those things look huge! I saw one at the Apple store a few days ago and it definetly looks like a desktop replacement.

Just in case noone as seen it yet… Apple is officially supporting dual booting (WITH VIDEO DRIVERS!) http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/

    Very cool :)

  35. Noraa Haras says:

What’s the point of this now? Get Apple Boot Camp and breeze through the 3 Apple-designed steps. No video required.

  36. Ronald Poi says:

Yes, this video came a little bit late…

  37. Dan says:

It actually came out in March… But we were mentioned in the TIMES today.

  38. [...] [...]

  40. Gareth Carter says:

we have installed parallels on our imac
    we then installed XP.

It works great…however the screen on our mac randomly flickers.

We have installed the Parallels tools.

But it seems like its a video driver issue.

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Kind regards
    Gareth

  41. Dan says:

The Mac screen or the parallels window?
