The great Internet Extortion

Seems as if the battle over the “premium” Internet has begun. ISP’s are complaining that larger websites (Google, AOL, and UNEASYsilence.com of course) are using more then their fair share of bandwidth on the ISP’s network, and wants the websites in question to pay a fee for using this “excess bandwidth”.

This is HARDLY fair in my opinion. Being on both ends of the spectrum, I spend a small fortune in bandwidth fees to deliver my website to you. However, I expect that fee to be used to reimburse my host for the expenses they have to facilitate multiple connections at their hosting facility allowing a speedy connection to all our readers, regardless of ISP. Also as a cable modem subscriber, I pay a monthly flat fee that I expect will allow me access to any internet server, regardless of the remotes connection.

Isn’t everyone getting paid fairly, or is there a legitimate use to create different tiers of the internet? Chime in!

Typical greedy capitalism. Gimmie gimmie gimmie, more. Of course it’s not fair.

Of course, a socialistic isp net would have it’s own problems too. “In Soviet Russia, ISP connects YOU!”
