I never use monkeys because they tend to be unpredictable, children are easier to take advantage off, all ya need is pay as you go phone credit and chocolate.

If the program stops sending signals… set alarm off, otherwise, continue running.

I think you can get a monkey for pretty cheap now adays… just train him.

write a simple script in c, to ping the server from another server….. if its down have it email your cell every x minutes until its back up

thats what we do.. but a little more complex, because it checks the ssh / apache / etc..

Pay a small child to sit in front of it for you? Give them a mobile phone and keep them in credit, they would sit there for years! Granted your bills for credit would be huge!
