Helio Wireless to ride the MySpace wave
According to the following press announcement [PDF format], Helio – a fresh new 3G mobile service provider debuting this Spring [2006] – will unveil its service riding on the waves of MySpace (social networking service turned mega bucks cesspool).
The mobile service will offer a look, feel and overall customer experience that are true to the online MySpace environment while optimizing it for mobile [...] The service will [...] enhance the overal MySpace experience with new features and content sources [...]
Having never heard of the upcoming wireless service, I decided to do a little background search and discovered that Helio is a partnership between Earthlink and SK Telecom (giant Korean telecom provider). Right off the bat you can already imagine the type of content and hardware being injected into this upcoming service. If anyone knows multimedia rich mobile handsets, it’s South Asian countries [namely Korea].
After reviewing the new handsets planned for a Spring 2006 launch, I must admit that the US may finally get the mobile handset boost to catch up with the rest of the world. The service doesn’t sound cheap considering that the focus is content driven. I can’t imagine what percentage of MySpace users make up the “tech savvy” numbers that Helio aims to capture.
Read more concerning Helio on the official site or on HelioSpot.com. InfoSync seems to have the background information on the planned handsets.

I can’t imagine this working. Myspace renders bad enough in the most tolerable browsers on a PCor mac..how can it possibly render on a cellphone.
Plus.. the profiles are terrible and I doubt a little java browser can handle loading up huge background images & video files.
my feeling is that myspace may get a kick in the ass to revamp it’s profile in order to match an optimized mobile version. i remember trying to load myspace on an sk2… yuck.
myspace definitely has the resources for a redesign. why not dig in the office sofas for a little change to pay for a overhaul?
Korea is in North East Asia. South Asia would be around India.
