PalmSource, Inc., today announced the ACCESS Linux Platform (ALP), the latest evolution of Palm OS for Linux. The ACCESS Linux Platform is designed to be an integrated, open and flexible Linux-based platform tailored for smartphones and mobile devices.
I am rather upset that the PalmOS, as we knew it, will be discontinued. I am not a fan of the still buggy, and rather bloated Windows Mobile OS. The PalmOS has matured with its age. It is a very simple, clean OS. Although recently it has been hacked to death to get the OS to adjust to the Treo – but still it is far more efficient then the windows solution.
Hoping that Linux on Palm devices won’t overcomplicate things, and will continue to be the simple OS that it always was.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Apple also a supporter of Palm PDAs?
It’s a big shame. I have a Palm TX. Palm should make their code open.
