As if cellphone service providers didn’t offer enough options for subscribers to burn holes in their pockets, Cingular has introduced a new feature which will identify music tracks simply by placing the cellphone near the audio source.

Utilizing Shazam Entertainment’s MusicID technology, Cingular subscribers can now dial #ID from their keypad, place the handset near a audio source, and wait for a text message identifying the track name and artist. The final straw to make sure you don’t walk hang up without losing that lunch money? An included download link for the over priced ringtone!

Creative move by Cingular adding the MusicID service to it’s growing line of cellphone turned MP3 player line-up.I for one feel sorry for any parents who might have teens. Could you imagine the car ride home from school? “like OMG, watch this, my phone is so smart! [snapping gum] It can name that song before, like, we get to that next stop light! Really?! Lemme try lemme try!”
