It’s always nice to have a fresh look. Click the above thumbnails for full screen previews of the possible make-overs for your favorite search engines / portals.

Personally, I think Google needs a redesign more so than Yahoo. The originals for the above thumbs can be found on Flickr and DesignView.

no way, i may be stuborn, but i think the google homepage is perfect the way it is.
    nice, and simple.
KISS keep it simple stupid (no insult to anyone)
    just my view anyway.

I don’t like heavy designs like Yahoo!’s. I’d rather not have so much useless crap on the homepage.

Calling it a “possible” redesign is pretty vague and (I believe) misleading. Anything is possible, but that Google redesign was done by someone in no way affiliated with Google. I could draw a picture of a car and claim it was a “possible” new line for Ford.

anything is possible which is the reason i said “possible”. possible, as in the next google redesign may very well look similar to andy rutledge’s interpretation.

Personally, I believe that the current google homepage is perfect. I completely agree that Yahoo’s is much too heavy. The simplicity is the greatest part, no distractions, just information. I’d hate it if Google started looking like Yahoo.

  6. Javier says:

I think that while Rutledge´s redesign of google homepage obviously looks nicer, it brings new design problems, for example, the new design looks a lot like Microsoft wich i think is not good for Google´s bussiness.

The Google screenshot looks pretty easy to do in firefox. I feel myself modivated. ;)

  8. Jay says:

Needless to say, I think that most (not everyone) feel they need a visual (and usability) update. Will they get it “right” is the real question!

Google themeself have said “The clean design of the site makes it abundantly clear how to proceed and offers little to distract the user in search of information.”

Google will never add any more to it’s pages then is absolutly needed, but will remain to design the site just to the point where it is visually good looking. Google has the fastest search engine, and if you think about it, if they put a bunch of “crap” on it’s pages, those pages will load slower, which is a bad thing.

I mean come on, You have a Personalized Home page on Google, that is much better looking then the default google.com, I love the personalized home page, and it does not have those ugly colors like My MSN or My Yahoo’s.

    Google you rock!

That Google picture is alright. I like the look of the field, tabs, and the buttons. but I hate that blue on top and bottom, too distracting.

I would never be caught with yahoo in my history, it sucks! Google is perfect the way it is simple but advanced when you want it to be
