Did you know?

That it took 8 hours for power to come back on in the greater Seattle area?! I felt lost, disoriented, disgruntled, and worst of all, disconnected from the world.

Enough of Seattle and myself, the real reason for the post concerns a site which spits out random “did you know?” facts:

  • 55.2% of us will let someone else come in the bathroom while they’re using the toilet.
  • Dueling is legal in Paraguay, as long as both parties are registered blood donors.
  • Your heart rate can rise as much as 30% during a yawn.

I wonder if anyone has ever suffered a hear attack after yawning?

    You mean today?

Hmm…I’ll probably be hearing ’bout this on the 11 o’ clock news.

  2. Derek says:

yeah today, the power was out for magnolia beginning around 9am. are you in the seattle area?

  3. Justin says:

Nope. Los Angeles. Been up there once or twice though.

  4. Derek says:

ah ok. dropped you an email asking if you were in the area. i know of a couple readers from the greater seattle area.

  5. Dylan says:

Whoa, was this a major blackout, or due to a storm or something?

  6. Derek says:

serious windstorm with a little rain mixed in coming down sideways. the wind is still howling and i expect to lose connectivity again.

  7. Dylan says:

The radar says you should be safe, just be glad you aren’t in New York…

  8. Derek says:

what’s going on in the ny? i havne’t heard of anything. are new yorkers in a worst situation?

  9. Dylan says:

No, they’re just experincing some weather thats worse than yours…not sure of the extent though

  10. Derek says:

ah i didn’t know that. i’ll have to check with my partner in crime.

  11. steve says:

yea, thats kinda bad, last semister our campus had a major power problem.
we lost power 4 times in a week, then 3 times the next week, then 2 a week after that.
two of the days were serious, as in, we werent allowed to sleep in our dorms cause there were no fire alrms, it was bad, 5pm – 6am almost the first day, then two days later 2 hours on no power.

and whats happening in ny, any snow, oh man do i want some snow, i miss it, havent seen any real snow since early december.

  12. Dylan says:

    Where’d y’all go?

  13. Dan says:

As a New Yorker, I can say that it was just raining hard here… No powerloss. It takes a lot to ruffle us.

  14. Derek says:

i feel bad for some of the people in the area that are still out of power. they’re shitting their pants because they’re worried power won’t be restored in time for the super bowl.

  15. steve says:

just looked out my window, and up in ct its rain too, damnit, i want some snow.

they got plenty of time for the super bowl, 12 hours or something like that, probably more, i dont know, i dont like foot ball too much, but i can feel with them, cause the days my school lost power, we also lost internet, phone, cell phone reception, tv, everything, so, basically, we had nothing to do, or i didnt anyway.

  16. Justin says:

It’s rather ideal sorta here I guess. Not too cold or hot. In the mid 60 I’m guessing, considering its nightime now. Although there are noisy neighbors playing Mexican music I can hear from the kitchen, nothings going on.

  17. Derek says:

internet, phone, cell phone reception, tv, everything

i have trouble imagining life without the modern necessities. no cellphone reception? that’s horror. i had no hardline internet connection, so i made due with streaming content on my handset.

  18. RyanB says:

Holy crap man. I was wondering if we were going to loose power here, but we didn’t.

  19. Nate MC says:

Was only out for a few minutes here in Lynnwood, damn UPS woke me up with it’s incessant beeping. Wasn’t out long enough to trigger a shutdown.

Made sure the generator was working yesterday, so if anyone needs a football fix I can guarantee power here.

  20. Derek says:

thankfully i hear that power has been restored to all the areas that suffered blackouts. the sticks are still doing some cleanup with down’d powerlines and trees though.

  21. Onie says:

Please tell me: Is there someone in Seattle that is as sick and tired of all this SuperBowl hype as I am here in Pittsburgh?

I’m just going to go to sleep now and wait until it’s all over…

  22. Derek says:

well i can’t say that i’m a super bowl fan, but i do have a little city spirit. i’d like to think that i fall into the category below the wild fanatics (read 30 – 40 year olds using this new opportunity to relive their high school pep rally days).

  23. RyanB says:

Onie I was watching Fox Sports and they said it was pretty quiet compaired to normal years.

  24. Derek says:

you must have missed the downtown pregame funk going on in the westlake area… or the older seattlites dawning seahawks memorabilia.

  25. RyanB says:

Yeah I heard that there was going to be a parade downtown no matter what.
