The Postal Service / Apple Video Controversy: Such Great Heights

I have to admit, they are too damn similar.
UPDATE: Shout out to our first caller, Al in Roanoke VA. The above video was done by the Postal Service, however when Apple introduced the MacTels, they produced a commercial that was VERY similar to the above video. In fact it was made by the same director. Long story short, the Postal Service went – well Postal saying it is blatant plagiarism.
Mac users be sure you have Flip4Mac
404 on both
I seemed to get it… lemme test
download links work.
the reason why those two videos are so similar is because they were produced by the some director. i think the production company was subpop (local seattle company).
the postal service rocks. nothing like local beats.
hey, hey! You can put that here! your supposed to buy it on itunes! What does “do not distribute” mean to you? :P ;)
i guess that was similar to the new apple video.
but i kinda didnt see any point in that video anywhere.
whatever
so what is the difference actually?
I love The Postal Service and happen to own their cd. I’m sure they don’t really mind the publicity ;)
Updated…
Hate to say it.. but the song isnt even BY the postal service.. its by Iron and Wine, and they do a far better version.. if anyone has yet to hear of them… check out an album called our endless numbered days for some sweet sweet acoustic butter.
I think there’s more to this than meets the eye. The two are SO similar, almost a shot for shot recreation, even more so than that remake of Psycho. That kind of copying means not only did Apple have to hire the same Director, but you need to have the original playing on the set, and the lighting and camera crew watching it, to match angles and lighting. Which means Apple knew all along exactly what they were doing.
Now, despite the fact that the Postal Service are claiming ignorance, it just seems a bit too convenient that their video is now being heavily promoted in the iTMS and is now the #1 purchase at $1.99 a pop. Not bad for a group that until last week, no-one had heard of. I wonder how many dollars both they and Apple are making off this.
If I was a betting man, I’d say The Postal Service knew about this all along, probably even gave Apple permission. It’s not a ripoff or an infringement, it’s called marketing synergy.
It sounds like these guys are making a fuss to get more free promotion. Even with similarities, it isn’t as if there’s a copyright on people in clean-room suits. Apple had the guy with the flaming toes when they introduced the Pentium-toasting G3. I’m sure Intel had some in ads too, although I can’t remember them clearly. (The guys in blue overwrote that part of my brain…).
Hmmm… there are musicians in blue too…
The download links here are broken (which is weird considering they’re from this site). Best not to post anything in WMV anyway. They had WMA and WMV in iRaq and look where it got them….
its a white clean room, thats standard how much “off” could the lighting ever be?
