Woman sentenced to death for protecting herself

An Iranian court has sentenced a teenage rape victim to death by hanging after she weepingly confessed that she had unintentionally killed a man who had tried to rape both her and her niece. [...]
The teenage victim had no access to a lawyer at any stage and efforts by her family to retain one were to no avail. Atefeh personally defended herself and told the religious judge that he should punish those who force women into adultery, not the victims. She was eventually hanged in public in the northern town of Neka.
Surprisingly, the article gave no reference or reasoning whatsoever justifying the court order that an innocent teenager be hung for defending her own well being.
Just remember this if/when we are in Iran doing the same thing as we’re doing in Iraq now.
A lot of people criticize white cultures for calling cultures other then their own “savage” well I’m going to go ahead and be one of those ignorant white people and say this is SAVAGE.
i wouldn’t normally make blanket statements but there is something wrong with the scenario above. woman survives rape by killing attacker. woman sentenced to death?! i really don’t care what cultural angle we look at the scenario from… then again, the original article fails to present any further details other than the obvious.

You need to know the whole story, really. Plus, in alot of countries, men are considered much more important than women. :\

The ppl in the middle east have such fucked up rules/society’s and just everything about the,m is wrong and this story is a case and point of this. Th whole middle east shud be made into a huge parking lot.
