And I REFUSE to call it a MacBook – NO WAY IN HELL. Long live the PowerBook!

Ah…very nice. Ooo, I forgot, its January.
Now only if I could install my windows software on it the Macbook Pro would be perfect. But alas, I have tons of windows based software that I wouldn’t be able to install.

Apple named the PowerBook due to the PowerPC processor that was used in product… Could’ve called the new ones CoreDuoBooks or IntelBooks. In addition, a MacBook running MS Vista and OSX would still give Apple their well-deserved $$$ and still allow me to play new games — not 3 yr old ports.
@mark: No, they didn’t name the PowerBook after the PowerPC – they used the name PowerBook long before the first PowerPC processor.
They could have go on with the name PowerBook, but a lot of people think the name has something to do with the PowerPC, so they were forced to change it.
The iMac shows they are keen on changing as little as possible, to not anger or frighten their customers. I’m sure they would have liked to keep the name for the Notebook, too.

@Mark: if you want new books to be named “intelBooks” then “powerbooks” would always have been called “MotorolaBooks” or “IBMBooks”… hm.

Sorry, but the MacBook will not run Windows yet. It uses EFI instead of conventional BIOS. Vista will probably be bootable but current Windows Versions are not.
Hi Robert : why do you want to poison such a beautiful and brand new Mac with windos stuff. I’have got rid of all that DOS clutter years ago.

Why don’t you get yourself a Playstation if you want to play around. A Powerbook or Mac Book Pro, just for playing games is much to expansive.

Windows XP is not EFI compliant, but there is already a version of LILO (Linux bootloader) for EFI so it will probably take about a day from when the new Powerbook hits the shelves until somebody writed a LILO to XP bootloader workaround. This is the Internet after all. (And running Linux would be easy of course.)

As soon as the LILO to XP is reported to work reliabily, I will purchase a MacBook immediately. Why? There are just too many apps that I need occasionally that ONLY do Windows. When I need them I have to slide over to my old Gateway toaster oven. It really would be nice to have a windows install run in a similar manner to that slowboat Virtual PC. e.g. co-exist, copy paste between apps, etc. I’d use Mac OS as the host and run NATIVE windows apps inside and REALLY FAST. dreaming…. dreaming…
I really don’t believe some of this that I am reading. Why run windows on a new Mac, “Powerbook or Mac Book Pro, just for playing games is much to expansive”??? How’s that? Dual core PC notebooks are available and cost in the same range, some high end gaming systems are more expensive. So Running windows on this dual core system is nothing more than a starndard PC. I would personally love to see it done so we can get true benchmark comparisons from with windows and OSX on the exact same hardware and finally end this stupid argument. We are on a level playing field, no more PowerPC kills Intel chips…blah blah, Power PC is dead, new macs on Intels are the faster ever made. Lets see how many old Mac myths die when run on what is primarily stronger “PC” hardware.

Windows sucks and the system will never be as dependable, fast or good at useful tasks than unix. you’re all idiots. i have NO doubt in my mind that OSX runs circles around windows on the dual core. good luck with those video games boys…

boney, Perhaps you don’t have a job in computers, but with web design its best to test sites in most browsers, meaning ones on OSX, Linux, Windows now I don’t know about you, but personally I’d rather be carrying around ONE notebook/MacBook rather then two (one for OSX one for windows). So perhaps in future give it a little thought before posting stupid comments.
P.S. Perhaps you should get some benchmarks before making silly claims like “i have NO doubt in my mind that OSX runs circles around windows on the dual core.”
