uTorrent – Your bittorrent client on a diet

This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.Installing a bittorrent client on a new / freshly installed computer is second nature. A decent bittorrent client is a must if you transfer large files regularly. You know what file(s) I’m talking about. No? How about the big group projects for school or work?
For years (I think?) I’ve relied on Azureus for all of my bittorrent downloading and seeding needs. If you’re looking for a fully featured bittorrent client with all the bells and whistles to shake a leg at, Azureus is what you need. The downside is the fact that the application is built on Java [read potential resource hog].
Being on a portable machine, efficient and lightweight apps / utilities are key. All you AMD monster tower users with GB’s of RAM need not worry. If you’re willing to sacrifice a few features in order to gain precious memory for your Windows powered machine, check out uTorrent. This 105KB bittorrent client is currently using a paltry 2.8MB of memory all the while downloading two complete movies legal traning iso’s. uTorrent is so small you can leave it running night and day without worrying about your system slowly dragging to a sluggish stupor [configurable bandwidth usage schedule].
I shifted to UTorrent a dew days ago. Definitely better, lighter than Azureus. I have 384Megs of RAM, but to use Firefox and Limewire alongside… and you suddenly realize the downsides of Java.
Not to mention that I’m getting better speeds using UT. Tried and tested thoroughly.
And hey, I just pointed UT to download certain old torrents in the same place as Azureus was downloading earlier. It automatically checked the old downloaded parts, and recognized and resumed from where mighty Azureus had left off. FANTASTIC!
Plus, I was never able to schedule an Azureus startup. Never. But UT is the best thing to happen to torrents since torrents themselves.
