Toast doesn’t care what platform it runs on, does it?

Remember the days of the flying toasters? Those days are here again! We previously mentioned that the screensaver was available for the Mac, which really got some readers upset. Thankfully faithful reader Rick came to the rescue and has compiled a PC version for all to enjoy!

So without fear you can download the retrotastic Flying Toasters screensaver for Mac or PC – FREE!

UPDATE: To install:

Windows – Drag the .scr file into your Windows directory, right click on it and select install. It should now appear in your screensaver list.

Mac: Drag the .saver file into ~/Library/Screen Savers/ (~ is you home directory)

This is great! Brings me back to the days of my old Mac II! The ages when extension manager was a pain and hard drives were a novelty. I was wondering, is there a way to get the sound of the toaster’s little wings flapping? Yea, I know it gets old quick, but its part of the charm! Thanks!

  6. Martini says:

It wil be great if there can be a developer community with the goal to make the old AfterDark modules runs under Windows XP and MacOS X. Some kind of AfterDark interpreter or Virtual Machine (like ScummVM). And much desirable to be open source ;)

I just want to load the Simpsons and Startrek modules on a modern OS without using the old After Dark program.

Damn. I had my hopes up.”Windows – Drag the .scr file into your Windows directory, right click on it and select install. It should now appear in your screensaver list.” Oh well. Fact is the AD “Classic” CD has the same setup as my Totally Twisted floppies – most of the programs are in password protected archives. I guess I still have a chance. I converted the unprotected version to a CD – somewhere. I can try that. I know that XP doesn’t use Win.ini and system.ini like the old semi-reliable Windoze. And yes it’s not just for the Mac even if they seem to originally come from them. We shall see what happens.

  23. Jeff says:

Anyone find the falling marbles screen saver? I remember it as rubber balls bouncing and piling up on the bottom of the screen, but anyway, any ideas?
