What is the big deal with the iSight and video conf software?

Ok, the web went wild over the new iMac with integrated. SO WHAT?! What purpose does video conf serve? What problems does it solve? Who uses it? It seems like a waste to me.
So I propose this… Drop a comment if you have used video chat software and what you used it for, or if you want to use video chat software and why. If you wish to stay anonymous, use a fake name and a fake email address such as fake@dodgeit.com
Prove me wrong in that video chat software has a purpose! Otherwise, I am permanently putting video chat software in the vault of wasted tech.
my friend uses his all the times and makes chick strip for him! that right there makes it enough for me to want one haha
My parents are terrible at computers. Just explaning how to use email took forever (this was on Windows a while back). Then they decided to buy a Mac and we started using iChat AV. They are happy with their decision and I am too because they stopped asking questions about computers from me.
I actually use iChat video conferencing on a regular basis with my parents. They live across the globe and we chat every week using iChat AV and iSight cameras. This is the best way for us to communicate. We both have broadband internet connections and the quality if the iChat videoconferencing solution is amazing. We can have full screen chats, with great quality audio and video. The picture is not jerky.
I would like to emphasize that using iChat is very easy. This is why I like this so much. It is a pain to explain anything to my parents, who are thousands of miles away, but they got iChat AV and videoconferencing right away.
I think these kinds of solutions are very important for people who are trying to keep in touch with others. I know that there are companies as well using this technology to communicate with each other. This way Bob does not have to run down to his boss’ office to have a face to face meeting… they can use iChat videoconferencing to talk quickly.
Vid cams are great people. Unless used for other things like KeR-E’s friend here. What sucks though is that isight primarily works with Macs :( Anywho Apple is really thinking ahead when it comes to distance communications with family members, girlfriends, etc. All hail Apple for setting the curve!
well i kinda like it.. maybe the chick thing is not my priority but i can talk to a lot of people and see them.. still better i use it to look at who is in my room when i am not there… sony vaios bought it before apple… but i hate the pc guys… apple rocks.
For a home computer, I don’t see any other purpose than to communicate with family and friends. But, I work for a wide-spread company. We used to have to fly all over the US to confrences. Now, with webcams, its a lot easier (and cheaper). We don’t use iMacs, but their future in our company looks bright.
In my high school, we use video conferencing and connect with diffrent educators. They will have discussions over this massive TV and stuff.
videoconference is important to me to show my friends the “how-to’s” make something in their computers… they’re always asking me for “how do i do this?”… and i just put my camera and show them in the easiest possible way. write and try to explain without real-time examples is a nightmare.
go iSight!
I use Skype and messneger to talk with my friends on the other side of the world a few times a week. I’m very pleased with voice and vid conferencing.
Well, I think it’s a big deal for people like me who have to work in other cities/countries away from their family. I use iChat on a daily basis to talk to my wife and kids when I’m away, can’t say it’s problem free, but I think it’s one of the better video conferencing software out in the market.
video conferencing rocks! My parents live hundreds of miles away, have macs, and talk face to face for free whenever we want. ichat w/ isight.
