UH OH! Google has something up their sleeve!

Seems like Google is up to NO GOOD. They just hired the lead developer of GAIM.

For the layman, Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, GroupWise Messenger, and Zephyr networks.

Ok, for those keeping score. Gaim works on ALL platfoms (unlike Google talk), and works with AIM, MSN, and Yahoo (unlike Google talk). Could this be their entry into the fiercely competitive IM field?

Also, my thoughts are Google is going to buy AOL. More on that tomorrow.

I doubt they are going to make a multi-protocol client, it would be a legal minefield for them.

In Sean Egans own words: “Currently, I’m working on making it as easy as possible for other clients to use Google Talk’s voice features.”

Looks like google will eventually take over IM-ing with a GOOD multi-service client! Sounds great to me, since all the current one STINK (yes, even Gaim).

I think google will make there app open to other people, eventually(through magic i suspect, or maybe pr or something) everyone will have to implement gtalk gonnectivity to keep us happy, and using there client.
