How-To: Download music videos from iTunes

Update 10/12: Apple has changed the backend of the iTunes Music Store rendering this script useless. Stayed tuned for updates as we try and find a suitable alternative.

I stumbled upon a very useful PHP script which allows you to download complete music videos from iTunes. You have the option of downloading the smaller or larger .MOV format videos which can be imported into your personal iTunes library. [source]

Step 1: Open the iTMS and navigate to Music Videos in the left side column. Choose the video of your choice and right-click on either the ‘Small’ or ‘Large’ format clip. Choose ‘Copy iTunes Music Store URL’.

Step 2: Go here and paste the URL into the video field and click ‘Submit’. The resulting page will present you with a link to download the complete video from iTunes. Right-click and choose ‘Save Link As’. Make sure to rename your video appropriately.

These are high quality Quicktime .MOV files. The larger versions weigh in at about 50MB so make sure you have a lot of hardrive space if you plan on ergh making use of this script.

    Another little tip for everyone. You can navigate to each seperate iTunes store and view the videos they have. The dropdown menu is located at the bottom of the store to change countries. Each store is stocked with some different videos.

    I’ve done this since a year or two ago(I may be exaggerating, but I’ve known this for a long time), I noticed that iTunes kept a .tmp file in the temp folder, but you couldn’t copy it. So I got a program that could “recover harddrives” and used it to “recover” that file and renamed it to whatever.mov
    But finally there’s a different way.

    @L: The directions were made as clear as possible.

    From the main iTMS window, select ‘music videos’. In the resulting window choose the video of your choice. In the last window right click on the ’small’ or ‘large’ link and ‘copy url’.

    Appears that iTunes 6 has changed the way it works, this no longer works (you get a cannot connect network error).

    Similar code for search itunes still works though, I assume this means they’ve changed their end.

    I fixed the video script, but it appears as though the videoId numbers have changed in some cases since the old URL’s arn’t working and in some cases the video’s are just missing (e.g. I can’t find Restless by Alison Krauss). If you can find it in the store, you can download it with the updated script (e.g. Avril Lavigne).

    I have read every post and I Think I am right in saying the following…I tunes have sussed the weakness and changed it. If you have version 6 or later the hack wont work. Do you need a lower version to make it work? I bet it wont work now that they have sussed it, even on a versions less than number 6. So, No it wont work on an old version. Besides how they present their content has nothing to do with what version you own…the versions are a reference to how the itunes programme works and operates, when you go into the store you are effectivley going into a website of sorts, and that is seperate from the programme iteself.Bottom line…The hack no longer works…so all those people who keep asking need read no further…unless a new hack in born of course

    figuring out a php hack for accessing videos via itunes 6 is a little easier said than done. my only recommendation is to check the frontpage routinely (RSS).

    the video’s downloaded off of yahoo vary in quality. most of the time the choppiness can be attributed to your actual computer. make sure your codecs and video drivers are updated.

    Hello, I recently bought an ipod, and had to download the 7.0 version, after reading all the comments on this page, I am pretty sure that, as smart & cool as this website is for trying to help people, it ain’t gonna work, esp if you have a newer version don’t waste your time, don’t believe me? Just read all these comments above of ppl trying to follow these instructions and having no results, the same thing happened to me, so it ain’t gonna work sadly to say. Hopefully there is a useful website (as easy friendly and helpful as this one was) that will help ppl download free music videos without wasting time

    ok, when you click on the music video link on the left column it only shows a certain number of music videos………….. i don’t want to download any of those, but when i search for the music video of my choice in the top right corner of the iTMS, i can find the music videos that i want………………… can i download those music videos the same way????

    ok well i have itunes 7 and it doesnt have this “small / large” thing, so where exactly do i right-click to get “copy url”? coz i dont think im getting the right url, when i submit it, the page just refreshes and theres nothing there.
