Update: Meebo – Trillian-like Ajax chat client

Finally. A decent web based chat service which supports all the major instant message protocols. Unfortunately, there’s no Jabber support so it’s a no go for Google Talk fanatics. Bookmark this one for chatting while you’re moving around on different computers. The service is still Alpha so don’t expect perfection (yet). Basic features such as ‘Away Messages’ and ‘Emoticons’ are missing. Who really needs those anyway right?
I’ve been toying with Meebo for the past hour or so. Aside from not being able to set an away message, I think that Meebo is off to a great start. For Firefox users who keep multiple tabs open, Meebo will flash incoming or new messages in the tab title. Try it for yourself.
Update: If your IT dept is blocking meebo.com, try logging in using http://www2.meebo.com or http://www3.meebo.com.
Update 9/18/05: Meebo now supports Jabber [read Google Talk].
Update 9/28/05: Meebo added a slew of new features: You asked for away message support, Meebo responds with a list of default ‘Away Messages’ and an option for ‘Custom Away Messages’. What other web based messenger services offer away messages? You asked to view status messages / profile views for contacts, Meebo responds with support on AIM / MSN / Jabber / Yahoo.
I can’t think of any other feature Meebo could add. Forget an actual desktop client. Meebo is all I need.
Who’d say they wouldn’t be able to have Jabber support on this first revision, though. Jabber, as an open protocol is probably the easiest of all to implement. I remember Gish doing Jabber so long ago that it’s totally weird Meebo doesn’t.
A shame, if you ask me.
Oh I’m sure the next revision will be a nice improvement over the current alpha build. With so many potential users, they’d need to find or setup a reliable server to go through [Jabber].
Are people really willing to use their login IDs on third party sites like this?

Pupils who post their requests on here are not very wise. Technicians will read these comments, find the new site and then immediately block the new URL. its a no win situation. Try to be more cunning and more desreet in school perhaps.

Heyy no need to repost about “verticalimits” ,,try to suggest different IP adresses.
Try going to google, and type in color filters
then click the first site
then type in the meebo site, in the box, and see if that works

Okay. My school has blocked all of the above addresses, meaning my school has a very strong filter. I was able to get into messesngerfx.com. I entered my email, paswrd, and then it told me it couldnt connect to the server.

Comon yall, please tell me that you have tried proxies? If not try it. You can always use the microsoft terminal serivces client, more commonly known as Remote Desktop Connection, to connect to your home computer. Once you have connected you are out of reach of the firewall. Remember yall use google to search for proxies. A very good client program for bypassing firewalls is JAP. Its free, get it at http://anon.inf.tu-dresden.de/index_en.html .

At my school, MSN messenger has recently been blocked, so we use fx messenger, you can try http://www.e-messenger.net/, thats what i use.
and also, if you cant get onto through that, theres always http://www.icq.com/ but you have to download it, an im not sure if its any good.
