SearchFox – Web based RSS to top them all
This post was published 4 years 6 months 6 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.SearchFox is a personalized web based RSS reader. At the moment, SearchFox is in private beta. If you’re interested in a account, send a request to support@searchfox.com.
I’ve had the opportunity to test the service over the past few days. Unlike alternative web based RSS readers [read Bloglines and Newsgator], SearchFox personalizes your account based on your reading habits.
SearchFox uses machine learning technology to automatically rank and personalize incoming feeds to reflect each reader’s unique interests. Our RSS reader learns by watching what individuals and the entire community find interesting, taking into account various inputs such as the source, author, and topic of an RSS entry.
Upon registering, you have the option to import your existing .OPML file. SearchFox scans your existing feeds and checks for any errors or dead feeds. Once completed, your existing folders / feeds are listed down the left side of the page. ‘My World’, the default view, lists unread articles from all feeds (20 max per page). As your personalized history accumulates, unread items on the front page will begin to reflect your personal interests. Similar to Gmail, basic functions are accessed via keyboard shortcuts. For example, marking all items as read (alt+r), save page to favorites (alt+f), collapse summaries (alt+c), expand summaries (alt+o), and archive pages (alt+a). In addition to a personalized reading habits engine and keyboard shortcuts, SearchFox has a search box that works! You can search your archived feeds as well as current unread items. All I have to say is that AskJeeves needs to get their act together over on Bloglines. Enough of the jibber, images speak louder than words. Feel free to post up any questions concerning the service.
