I don’t watch MTV and I’m not sure if this music video has aired on television. If you have an extra 7 minutes – which you probably do since you’re browsing online – check out Green Day’s “Wake Me Up When September Ends” music video [American Idiot]. The video expresses Green Day’s views on the the effects of war on young soldiers and loved ones. Directed by Samuel Bayer. After the jump, click the ‘videos’ link at the bottom of the page. Wow.. thanks for the heads up on that one. According to the home page they are number one on TRL, so they are showing it on MTV. Unfortunatly, my rabbit ears don’t pick up MTV. Found some good info about this some after some Googling:
Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this. It is the first song he wrote about the death of his father. His father died of cancer when Billie Joe was 10. Before he died, he gave Billie Joe his first guitar, a Ferdnandez Stratocaster copy, which Billie Joe now calls “Blue.”

I seen it last night for the first time on MTV’s after hours thing, and I had just hung up with my boyfriend who is in the army and leaving Germany tomorrow to go to Iraq, so it was really upsetting to see. I ended up crying myself to sleep cuz of it. It’s a great song, but I can not watch the video, too upsetting, specially since in the past year, I’ve only seen him for a month, broken up in 2- 2week periods, and I wont get to see him till next spring.
Well hang in there Jen. I’m sure he appreciates the support you’re providing him.
man, that is a great song. and that video. so powerful. i cant watch it. i break down. at least its good to know that theres someone willing to put into good context the true reality of the war.
