We love DIY projects, and thought our piece on becoming your own WiFi hotspot was dead on for our readership. But oh, how time changes everything in that very concept. While the biggest factor was cost before the London bombings, today the concept of bringing a solar paneled, WiFi backpack onto a NY subway or London Tube stop is just not advised. Based on recent shoot-to-kill policies, we just wanted to warn our urban readers, that this one is definitely not for you. For those in non-subway states and cities, the information is still an interesting read.

    NY & London tube riders shouldn’t have any sort of wires sticking out of their bulky bags.

    New York City subway riders can’t get any sort of cellphone access either. Which might be good because it stops people from talking on their phones & annoying others.
