The $250 Nieman Marcus cookie recipe
This is supposed to be a true story about a woman who requested the Nieman Marcus cookie recipe. The waitress offered to sell the recipe for “two fifty”. The woman assumed she meant $2.50. In reality $250 was charged to her card and Nieman Marcus refused to refund the money. The $250 recipe is below:
2 cups butter
1 tsp. salt
2 cups sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp. soda
4 eggs
24 oz. chocolate chips
2 tsp. vanilla
1-8 oz. Hershey bar, grated
4 cups flour
3 cups chopped nuts
5 cups blended oatmeal*Cream butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix together with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder and soda. Add chocolate chips, Hershey bar and nuts. Roll into balls and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 375. Makes 112 cookies (recipe may be halved).
* Measure oatmeal and blend in a blender to a fine powder.
True or not, a quick Google pulled up this site with “Nieman Marcus cookies”.
Update: Kirk has kindly pointed out that Snopes has proven this purported $250 recipe as FALSE.
