Major data backup F-ups

That’s all I seem to hear when computer related discussions are on the table. I guess normal people like you and I don’t have to feel so bad after reading these stories:
Maybe Citigroup is getting an idea of how crucial secure backups are.
In February last year, a magnetic tape with information on about 120,000 Japanese customers of its Citibank division disappeared [...] And this week the company revealed that it had happened again – this time the loss of an entire box of tapes in the care of the United Parcel Service, with personal information on nearly four million American customers.
Then again, why do we need to backup our own essential files if Homeland Security fails to do so for themselves? So much for leading by example.
