Looking back it is amazing to see how far we have come in terms of technology, especially when you look at our vision of the future twenty or thirty years ago.  Many of the things we considered futuristic in the 80’s now not only exists, but is commonplace — like cell phones, for example.

Movies and other visual media often provided clues as to how we anticipated the future to be: Star Trek painted a picture of humans traveling through space, exploring, with a smorgasbord of cool gadgets; 2001: A Space Odyssey had a similar vision, but predicted communicating via video chat, browsing news on tablet-like computers, and artificial intelligence.

Another place where the future was brainstormed and visualized was commercials and other marketing tools of technology companies, such as Apple.  A great example of how the past predicted future developments is the following concept video from Apple in 1988.  To think that in just 20 short years, we have made the technology from this video mostly a reality is astounding.

Watching this video makes me wonder what companies are cooking up now, and where the future could possibly take us.  What’s next? Teleportation? Flying cars? Robot maids?  Seems to me like we’re just getting started.

A new app released “find my friends” allows iPhone users to track and locate friends who have agreed to share their location data with a trusted group of people. A man in New York decided to buy his wife a new iphone 4S and enabled location sharing. He had suspecting that she has been cheating. Upon tracking her he found her location confirming her lies.

Now, Microsoft has closed its acquisition of Skype, locking in an $8.5 billion payment that was led by investor group Silver Lake. Microsoft and Skype are focused on their goal of connecting all people and accelerating both companies’ efforts to transform real-time communications for consumers and enterprise customers. Skype will continue to offer its current products to millions of users globally. Employers are global including Estonia, the Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and the United States. Skype will also be integrated across an array of Microsoft products to broaden Skype’s reach and accelerate its growth as a fundamental way people communicate online.

Sergey Brin, a Russian-born American computer scientist, says” We want Google to be the third half of your brain.” Google search engine has penetrated into the lives of human beings, big time and now it’s difficult to stay away from it. There are a million things that Google does for you. It is highly impossible to understand all that Google has got to offer.

Here are few services from Google that may not have had the limelight that they deserve.

1. Google Offers

Google Offers allows users to find the best deals in their respective areas. All a user has to do is to sign up with Google Offers inorder to get exciting deals in their respective areas. In case you are interested in any of the offers, the service allows you to buy voucher via the Google Checkout. You may print it and use it. However, this offer is available only to the US as of now. As far as UK is concerned there are a ton of other sites like PS Discounts having offers and deals helping to shop online with discounts.

2. Google Insight for Search

The Google Insight is an excellent application that allows you to search for interest volumes and the interest patterns amongst Google users. The search results could be on specific regions, time frame, categories and properties. These search results are based on what people prefer to type in the Google’s search bar and that can be of any interest – sports, movies, products etc. The terms used for searching them are displayed for you in a neat graph showing you the frequently used keywords.

Sometimes this concept feels very funny. Imagine asking Google itself, what people prefer to put on it, what words and in what pattern and the search engine reveals the secret. This is a great tool especially for those who are into the Search Engine Optimization all the time.

3. Google Patent Search

Google Patnet Search allows google users to explore patents on different topics. The service also allows you to download patents from a variety of categories including Science and Technology. The downloaded contents are usually in the PDF format. Google Patent may not be very attractive for a non-technical person but it sure has its own value for people who are in search for it.

4. PostRank

PostRank is another excellent google service that has been launched by Google recently. This service accumulates data on social engagements. With a number of widgets and plugins, like its extension for Chrome, this service filters the most favoured posts among the ordinary ones. It goes about the business using social statistics like Tweets, Facebook shares, etc. and intelligently determines the quality of the post.

5. Google Wallet

As the name suggests, this google service allows you to turn your mobile phone device into a wallet. This service can function in smartphones with inbuilt card readers. This card reader pre-scans your credit card details and makes a virtual storage of details in the microchip of the mobile. Hence your future shopping can be done by simply tapping on the screen to make payments.

Well, well, well! You may wonder if there is anything at all in this world that is more powerful than Google. But all that I can say is:

Samsung attorney, Kate Sullivan, was asked to identify which of the two tablets (ipad 2 and Galaxy 10.1) was the Galaxy Tab 10.1 while the judge held them above her head. Sullivan responded “Not at this distance, your honor.” While she stood only 10 feet away! It is shocking to find out that the lawyers cannot identify their own product. The judge then asked if one of the other lawyers can identify which tab was the Samsung, while one was able to quickly respond with the correct answer. Judge Koh decided that Samsung’s Galaxy-branded tablets do collide on some of Apple’s tablets, but Apple must still prove that their patents are valid under the law before she could grant Apple an injunction. . Koh wrote that she is unable to grant the injunction based on the “utility” patent Apple claims Samsung is infringing upon, but she is still considering three other design patents. If the lawyers of Samsung are unable to identify the tablet, this may have a hurt on their case.

Mike Sorrentino (The Situation) from the Jersey shore expected special treatment from the apple store in the Fashion Show Mall located in Las Vegas. He was trying to cut in line before everyone else demanding his iphone 4s. Mike was quickly removed from the store. If you watch the Jersey shore shows this shouldn’t be any surprise to you. Hope he doesn’t go home and throw his head against the wall!

So, you want your girlfriend to get off your back about video games? Does she nag you that you play too much video games? Well, the best solution is to get her hooked on video games with you.
1. Picking the right game: Start off slow. No girl will want to start off with war games and shooting. The most appealing might be a Mario game, then after some time with that slowly move towards more action games. Find her interests, does she like the beach? Race boats instead of cars!
2. Staying in shape: She might always nag you to go to the gym. Introduce her to the Wii and tell her you are interested in starting an exercise program with her from home.
3. Make her Jealous: Brag about how all your friends girlfriends play video games with them and how cool and fun those girls are for playing video games with their boyfriends. (of course this isn’t true) but it will work.
4. Buy her stuff: She always complains that you never by her anything, so start buying her some things that have to do with video games. Maybe some Mario mushroom earrings or a Tetris bracelet.
5. Negotiate: Start to bribe her that if she will play video games with you, you will clean her room or watch her favorite show (even if it is keeping up with the Kardashians).
6. Dirty little secret: some girls might be ashamed of the fact of playing video games, so promise her that you will never tell any of her friends and that it will be your dirty little secret. This will excite her that you will have something to keep between each other.
7. Get crunk: As well all know, alcohol can get us all to do almost anything. So make a fancy night and pop some champagne, buy her some chocolate and then pull out the games !

Iran announced that they were planning on shooting a monkey into space with one of their Kavoshgar-5 rockets. Western officials were worried that the Islamic Republic was really just testing its own ability to create long-range ballistic missiles. Thankfully Iran has failed to send a rhesus monkey into Earth’s orbit. Iran postponed its plans on October 3rd to send a monkey into space. Iran has already sent a rat, turtles and worms to space by its Kavoshgar-3 rocket in 2010. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced that his country plans on putting a man into space by 2017.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a report earlier this month that nearly one in 10 Americans admit to regularly using illegal drugs. There is a drug arrest every 19 seconds in the U.S. Every day there is 4,320 people that get arrested because of drugs. Because of more than 1.6 million drug arrests in 2010, police and judges have been campaigning to legalize and regulate drugs. Since the declaration of the ‘war on drugs’ 40 years ago there has been tens of millions of people making an effort to reduce drug use. The fact that there has been another 1.6 million citizens last year that have been arrested in effort to reduce drug use shows that this is not working. In this current economy arresting so many people in the failed ‘war on drugs’ is becoming too pricey. Some people agree that legalizing and taxing drugs would be the best option. This would create new revenue in addition to the money from arresting users as well as making society safer by bankrupting the cartels and groups who control the current illegal marketplace. FBI reports show that 81.9 percent of all drug arrests in 2010 were for possession only, and 45.8 percent of all drug arrests were or possession of marijuana. Today the Mexican drug cartels are currently operating in more than a thousand cities in the United States. Two years ago the Mexican drug cartels were only in 230 U.S. cities.
