  • Ameer

    Wow you r the best!
    Any one tried it?

  • Sc0tasorusRex

Tried this on my old 3G. Worked fine, but I didn’t notice much of an improvement. Game Centre is missing on the 3G. Haven’t installed it on my iPhone 4 yet though.

  • Tom

Interested in this, is it verified working? Don’t want to brick my phone.

  • nabin

wow u guys are the coolest, i was fucking tryin to install with lot of tweaks and twists with the official one and i didnt have developer’s account. just got this working on my iphone 4 flawlessly…thanks again

  • mik3sh

I am not a registered developer. Could I install this release on my 3g?

  • James

Anyone tried jailbreaking it yet? I need an unlock.

  • NewToApple

installed 4.1 on my iphone 4 with no probs. thanks!

  • Dan

    Yes

  • TrippleD

Just not too long installed this on my iPhone 4 and it works a treat. the phone does seems a bit snappier. not that it wasn’t snappy before.

  • nicks

grabbed the file (THX!) but how do i install it? Do I need to perform a restore and point at that file? sorry, tried dragging it onto iTunes and no dice…

  • Tom

Can confirm, for myself, that it works. hah.

  • nicks

nevermind, figured it out (option) + restore

  • the guz

hey nicks, can you explain how you installed it?

  • Ray

If I install 4.1GM (not a developer), will itunes prompt me to upgrade when the final 4.1 is released (expected on the the 8th)?

    Thanks

  • nicks

    attach your iphone
run backup first (right click on iphone in itunes)
then hold the option key and click restore (in itunes)
this should bring up a window to select the file to use to restore your firmware – select the downloaded file
let itunes guide you from there

    hope that helps!

  • Mark

If the GM turns out to be the same version as the final release iTunes won’t prompt you too upgrade but if you hit the restore button it will download the “official” version and restore your phone with it.

  • Sirius

No, because this is the final release! If they do another update that is beyond this one then YES.

  • maximan

what is the option key in ref to

  • Sue

Works great. Thanks so much! :D

  • Ken

Sorry, one more question: Will this update wipe my phone, and will I then have to re-sync all of my content from iTunes?

  • nicks

yes, it will wipe, and then reload everything when you tell it which backup to use. So make sure to backup current state BEFORE the restore!!

  • Edward

GM means gold master. It means that it us finished and final version. Usually it won’t change nothing until official release. So it is the same for next week update.

  • wizeguy

    First thanks for posting this.

Here’s how I installed this on my second gen ipod touch within windows using itune’s 10.

#Download the correct firmware listed above
    # Start iTunes application.
    # Plug in your ipod touch/iphone
    # Select your iphone listed on the left Click on ‘Restore’ while holding down the ‘shift key’.
    # Select the IPSW file you downloaded from the folder.
    # iTunes will automatically recognize the firmware and upgrade the iPhone with iPhone firmware.

  • AP

Just a tip for everyone. You must be on 4.0.2 to update to 4.1 GM. iTunes looks at the baseband version and will not upgrade without 4.0.2. I was on 4.0.1 for jailbreak reasons and got multiple (1004) errors before figuring this out. Hope that helps. And make sure you back you shsh to sauriks server in case you want to downgrade.

    Cheers,

  • ramu

  • nick

    does this work on 3gs?

  • Steven

    WOOOAH It Works

HDR Is Awesome on The iPhone 4
And Game Center is Here too

  • CDot

Uhm, I did a straight upgrade, and didn’t have to restore. Works perfectly normally, just as if I were upgrading via download. Just hold OPTION(alt on a pc) + cmd (ctrl on a pc) and click upgrade. Then you can select the file.

  • Stuee

No, you will have to wait for version 4.2 for iPad compatibility, due in November.

  • Bepop

Anyone else still having a problem with sensor?

  • Yong

Does proximity sensor work alright with this upgrade? Has anyone noticed any improvement for the proximity senor?

  • no

The 3GS filename is listed wrong: it should begin with iPhone2,1. iPhone3,1 is just for the iPhone 4.

  • kaola

Works great on 3GS, I did like CDot, takes time but works good

  • simon

    Phone: iPhone 4
    Software Version: 4.0.2 (pre-installed)
Computer: Windows Vista Home Premium, Firefox

    Background:
i previously had a iphone 3G that i jailbroke using 4.0 then 4.0.1 via Cydia. I sold that phone in hopes to obtain an iphone 4 with 4.0.1, but with my luck received an iphone with 4.0.2. anyhoo, i digress…

    Observations:
download was great. I plugged in my iphone and synced using itunes v.10. After syncing i pressed “shift” and clicked restore. From there i went to my recent downloads and selected the file. It was smooth sailing from that point on.

    Verdict:
This whole process has worked very smoothly, and i greatly appreciate your time and generosity for providing this file! Only downside that i noticed was that 11 of my apps could not be transferred. i am going to try and download them again.

    Thanks again!

  • Bepop

No it still sux. Here I come galaxy s!

  • Olegreg

Works great downloaded smooth and installed smooth. You dont have to restore option+command(alt+ctrl for pc) and click update then it works just like an update.

    Hi,

I second the following method used to install 4.1…

#Download the correct firmware listed above
    # Start iTunes application. (Itunes 10 just released)

    Worked perfectly…Thank you

  • Texy

Not totally true – I skipped 4.02 and upgrade my iphone4 from 4.01 to 4.1 without problems. Non JB

  • Nick M

The link above for iPhone 4 states the file should be ‘iPhone1,2_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw’.

When I click the link for iPhone 4 the window that appears has the download link for a different file, ‘iPhone3,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw’.

Anyone else notice this ? Can someone confirm which is the correct file for iPhone 4 ?

Otherwise, great upload guys. Loving your work.

  • Glen

Thank you for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning far more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your website with more information? It is really helpful for me.

  • Yong

I upgraded my iphone 4 with apple official release of ios 4.1. It works perfect now and the proximity senor problem no longer exists! I the GM version does not work, you might try the official one.

  • Mikeee

I managed to cokmpletly wipe out everything on my Iphone 4 – and of course no backup.

Any idea how I can restore this to factory?

  • misty

I did the same thing, updated to 4.1 without taking a backup, now all my contacts and SMSs are erased.

Any idea how can I restore them? Can they be stored somewhere from past backups? All the backups appearing in the iTunes are dated after the update
