What EMail Provider Do You Use?

I’m in the middle of an EMail dilemma. I currently use Rackspace to host my email. I’m quickly approaching the 10GB limit they set and there is no indication that the 10GB cap is going up.

So, outside of Exchange, who do you host your EMail with? Help me out!

Come on Dan, stop fighting it. Go Gmail.

I use google apps just for the email

Using Dreamhosts unlimited space. So my mail will be able to live there forever(hopefully). Their imap is solid. And uptime in four years has actually been higher than gmails(don’t forget the two gmail outages last year). But everybody loves gmail.

MobileMe is getting interesting, $99 a year gets 20gb of storage plus bonus stuff like find my iPhone. They may be a power player if they go free soon. Otherwise google seems to be the top dog for a while more.

    Fastmail is very good.

How is exchanges web interface? Web interface is becoming the most important feature(outside of push)

    Gmail of course.

I use GMail replicated into Zoho.
If 7G is not enough, create a second one and push the old mails into this second account.

I also use my local computer to replicate emails with IMAP.

Second that! Use it for several domains.

Google Apps for my own domain. it isn’t unlimited storage, but it’s free, and there is a lot of storage.

Another vote for gmail. I’ve been using it for going on 6 years now and have never been disappointed.

I have Google apps for my domain since they first offered it, and every one since then (a total of 6 different domains). It’s the single greatest thing to happen to email.

Downtime is nonexistent, the interface is the best in the world and it’s exactly the same as my main email (Gmail) so I don’t need to learn 2 different ways to do something.

My favorite part is the amount of email addresses you can have. In short it’s infinite. You may only be able to have 10 user accounts, but by setting up a catch all account, you now have: anything.you123.want@yourdomain.com x infinity. Then with the right filters and labels set up, you never need to worry about email again.

I’ve been using mobile me since before they started charging of the service. I still love it at a C-note per year. All my computers and devices sync flawlessly at work, home, and everywhere else. You can pay for extra storage if you need it, and you can buy it from a third party like Amazon and pay $20-$30 less than if you get it straight from Apple.

MobileMe. Deleted my Google Apps and other Google Accounts a couple weeks ago. FWIW, the Web app lets you send out from your own domain now, and you can always set that up in your desktop client of choice too.

Also: it might be worth looking into some kind of email archiving system, if only to have a backup of all your online mail. I’ve seen email accounts disappear from Google and Hotmail, and hosting accounts suddenly get shut down for odd reasons.

I use MailSteward. Besides the local backup advantage, it’s also a handy way to keep my email clients lean and responsive.

  • Dan

AWESOME tip about MailSteward… I’m totally downloading it now!

  • Dan

Went with MobileMe with a custom domain… Used a provider to force rewrite the sender address on the SMTP server. Kinda like GMail does.

Why’d you change from Gmail? Just curious.
