Apple, Ditches The Buttons, Revamps Shuffle

Today Apple announced and made available for sale a new iPod Shuffle. The new svelte device features 4GB of memory and no buttons. Everything is controlled via the headphones (Read: You will need a $50 adaptor to use any other headset).

Additionally Apple bills this as ‘the first music player that talks to you’ since they enabled a feature called “VoiceOver” that announces artists, songs and playlists on demand.

Available now for $75 and ships in 3-5 days.

    Wow Apple has done it again!!! But the nag in this new iPod is the headphone control. Imagine the cost involved if the head phone is damaged, in the first place the head phone is going to cost a couple of dollars. Do you cheated? Would you upgrade your iPod? Share your views @

    I, for one, cannot wear those stupid earbuds… they never stay in. I have purchased a few shuffles and with this announcement I am done. Give me a damn dongle, not proprietary headphones.

    Seems like at this price and size they should just build the damn thing into a set of high quality headphones, forget about the cord completely. They could put little Apple logos on the outside of the ear pads, so that everyone knows you’ve got the real deal.

    Wouldn’t it be nice if I got fame, fortune, and a free iEars when this occurs to Apple?

    Know anyone at Apple who I can pass this idea on to?

    But what if you wanted to play it on a stereo, or any other sort of audio-in speaker setup? Then you can’t control your music at all? That seems awful.
