What is Your Computer Name

It’s no secret that geeks name their computers. Any real computer user I know has NEVER stuck with the default name.

So what do you call your computer? Bonus points for creativity!

Audrey – I am a Hepburn fan, and my accompanying iPod is called Holly Golightly for obvious reasons… have I gone too far?

I name my computers after famous mathematicians. I have an Euler, Leibniz, Cauchy, and Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (Or KKT for short). My computer named Newton
    died a few years ago.

  • floydaddict

My computers are MatBook and iMat.

Can you guess my name and the computers I use ?

  • http://www.clunkclunk.com/ Adam Nelson

While the other computers in my house are named fairly boring things, iMac, MacBook, and Mac Mini, my main MacBook Pro is named Utopia Planitia which is the place on Mars where the Viking 2 landed, but also where the Star Trek universe has a ship construction yard. All my hard drives have Star Trek ship related names and icons, so it’s a general theme.

  • Pete

For ages I named them after characters from the first testament whose names started with ‘E’, in honour of the character Enoch Root from Cryptonomicon. However, last year my laptop hard-drive died, and I when I reinstalled it, I just called it ‘Pure Logic’. I’m lucky my girlfriend likes computer nerds…

From when Matthew M. opens the hood of a car in Dazed and Confused and says “let me tell ya what Melba Toast is packin”

  • Ian

Luna. Resurrected the name when my old G4 tower finally died. Inspired by the pulsating white power circle on the tower when in sleep mode.

My iPhone though is named “mai ifone.”

  • Josh

    * opiate (my first comp, now running as a server — named because I was clearly addicted).

  • PVL

My little Dell laptop is named PocketRocket.

Someday I’ll probably rename the servers (as they get replaced or I add new ones) to Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar (after the three wise men and Evangelion).

iPhone: was Floyd (after Pink Floyd) but it “lost” it’s name during a recent restore. Haven’t decided if a new name is in order or if it’s back to Floyd.
