Zune More Popular then iPod on Amazon?

Seems like the Zune isn’t a laughing matter anymore – It’s outselling the iPod on Amazon.

A Zune media player is the top-selling digital musical device on Amazon.com, outselling Apple. Inc.’s iPod for the No. 1 ranking.

On Monday morning, Microsoft Corp.’s heavily discounted, 30-gigabyte, $134 Zune digital media player was ranked the No. 1 bestseller in the Seattle online retailer’s list of top-selling MP3 players in the “Electronics” category.

Apple’s four-gigabyte iPod nano was No. 2, followed by Apple’s 80-gigabyte iPod “classic” at No. 3.

Hmmmm, with the new OS the Zune might have enough punch to give the traditional iPod a run for its money.

    Good. Very Good.

    I am an Apple fanboy, but I’m tired of seeing so many white earbuds around. It’s good to see some variation, and competition will benefit us the consumers. I wished the Zune to be better so it will give the iPod a better run for its money.

    Go M$, keep it up!

    …… people don’t buy iPods on Amazon… your average Joe buys theirs at Apple store in the Mall… or from Apple.com…. I have no fucking clue where to buy a Zune… I suppose best buy or target, this doesn’t surprise me so much.

    Let’s track overall sales and see whats up ;)

    Also… where are the Creative Zens?… damn shame they don’t have more market share, good little players.

    Just a few weeks ago they were $99, but I guess they raised the price because so many people were buying them…

    And since when did we make Amazon the official “numbers” for the sales? Yes, cool to see Amazon is selling more Zunes but that is just one store out of thousands that sell either device.

    I agree with Chad 100%…except for the Creative Zen…I have a Sansa with Best Buy Music Store (powered by Rhapsody). It’s great having all this low cost music. I don’t ever use CDs anymore, so not having to buy music and having access to tens or maybe hundreds of thousands of songs is great.

    So far on Rhapsody I found almost all my favorite music, exceptions being, Seether, Evanessance, Metallica, and The Beatles

    Competition is always good for consumers. Microsoft lowering prices for Zune is a good example for Apple to lower its prices for iPods but unfortunately, Apple rarely lowers prices.

    Make a note that iPod was #2 and #3….which I’m sure equals more than the Zune sales.

    Because they are broken down by type, not actual product, it looks like the Zune is #1 when it probably isn’t REALLY.

    Well it’s one thing to be on top for the week of your release. But what I’m wondering is mostly how long it’ll stay that way. The iPod has been a No.1 seller for quiet sometimes, afaik.

    You know, it wouldn’t be bad to have some competition. I mean, you never know. With more than one big player, someone might be willing to open up their media player platform more.

    I find it border line hilarious that people are looking to MS to offer some form of consumer benefiting competition. Obviously they’re not really the best example of this (historically speaking).

    The second they have a large enough market share, they’ll do something to try and lock down their position (if possible) and put everyone else out of business (if possible), and then start selling shitty products again.
