Secret New iPhone Feature: MP3 and WAV Attachment Support

iphonemp3.jpg

So, after biting the bullet and doing the iPhone 1.1.1 software update (Hey, somebody has to do it so you don’t!) Apple took away quite a few little features I have come to love about the iPhone, but they also introduced a slew of secret undocumented features. One of which is MP3 and WAV attachment support.

Perfect for anyone who uses GotVoice or CallWave.

As a Vonage customer who has their voicemails emailed to him as WAV attachments, this is huge news.

Unfortunately, I’ve just tried it with about a half dozen voice mail attachment WAV files and it gives me an error, “This movie could not be played”

Has anyone else seen this with Vonage voice mails and gotten past it?

Do I want to know how you updated after all the Tmobile talk a few days ago, Dan? :)

I am also unable to get Vonage wavs to play, I also had this problems on a Windows Mobile 5 Blackjack. I could download the wav but not play it.

Unfortunately the iPhone doesn’t support the codec that Vonage is using. See – http://www.kehlet.cx/articles/156.html for some details. One option is to forward the e-mail to messages@iphoneconvert.com and you will get back a web link that you can play.

It works for me, but may not be ideal for all people…

Take a look at http://www.vonagent.com – it’s an iPhone app that allows you to listen to Vonage voicemails (it’s free).

    Enjoy

The service http://www.vm2wm.com will convert the file to MP3 before it reaches your iPhone.
