As a blogger and general tech guy, I consider myself a professional travler. I have my airlines of choice but sometimes you need to take another carrier. These changes can really turn a trip for pleasurable to a nightmare real fast.

Airline travel is expensive so many websites offer so many different prices for identical flights – why overpay?!. Kayak.com is a great faire comparison website that checks over 140 other travel websites, including the ones that let you name your own price, to scour for the best flight deal available. Also, check out FareCast.com to give you an idea on when the best time to buy a plane ticket is.

Before you book a ticket check out SeatGuru.com. Seat Guru points out where and more importantly where not to sit on a vast majority of worldwide airlines. It also point out for the business traveler where you can find those coveted power ports on select jets.

After you get your ticket booked, knowing what food – or more recently snacks – will be served during the duration of your flight. At AirlineMeals.net they have has thousands of pictures of in-flight meals photographed by frequent fliers. This way you know weather or not to leave the brown bag at home.

Now if only they rated airport bathrooms….

You should also check out Yapta.com. Yapta tracks airfares even after you book your ticket and will send an e-mail about a significant price drop, along with info about how to claim a travel voucher or refund from your airline. I’ve used it with great success thus far.

These guys search thousands of fares by hand every day to come up with the best possible deals. They cover all of the discount carriers as well as specials listed only on airline websites. Plus you can sign up for a daily newsletter which let’s you know about the best fares from your city.

    Worth checking out…
