Amazon Launches DRM Free Music Store

Today Amazon made its widely anticipated entry into the online music distribution world with the introduction of its DRM free music service.

Current provider offered is only EMI but with Apple’s strained relationship with Universal I wouldn’t be so shocked to see them join onboard too. Most track currently are available for $.89 or $.99 with albums ranging from $5.99 to $9.99.

All the music files are MP3s encoded at 256k and will wonk on almost every media player available.

I just bought Meddle by Pink Floyd because I deleted it yesterday by accident + I left all of my cds at home. The songs are great quality, cheaper than the ones I get from iTunes, added automagically to my iTunes (but you can change that setting if you don’t want it to), and are free of any sort of personal information. From now on, I’m checking the Amazon music store first before I buy an album.

Oh, and they have Radiohead’s back catalogue as well. :)
