Mini Cooper Clubman

I’ve always been a fan of Minis. Then again, I’ve always wanted a SmartCar, so maybe I’m just biased towards small cars. Maybe something to do with the fact that I can’t parallel park to save my life…

Whether or not you suck as badly as I do when it comes to parking on city streets, its hard to deny that the newly announced Mini Cooper Clubman isn’t one spiffy little machine. A mere 10 inches longer than its counterpart, the Clubman manages to squeeze in an extra set of doors, a significantly bigger trunk, and a neat feature to stop you rolling down the hill into the car behind you when stopped at a traffic light and switching gears. The Clubman will be available in November.

    Wow, cool!

I too lust for a Smartcar, but my four-year-old’s existence puts that–or the even more lust-deserving Tesla–out of the relm of the possible (okay, the Tesla’s $120,000 price tag is also a factor). I finally bought a Prius this year, which is about five feet shorter than the gas-guzzling 18-year-old truck it replaced; one of the coolest features in the Prius is a little camera above the license plate that lets you back up to less than an inch from the car behind you…really handy for NYC.

I know it’s all subjective, but the mini club looks pretty bad IMHO. The car nos looks disproprtionate and those doors on the back look awful.
Guess they’re stretching the Mini “lifetsyle value” to the extreme.
And that $30,000 equivalent UK start price isn’t so cool either.

My take is that this Mini will Bomb, giving BMW a taste of reality.
