Lenovo Enters The Low Cost PC Market

Chinese manufacturer Lenovo will begin manufacturing a $199 computer aimed at their own population. For the price the desktop unit would include a PC, mouse, keyboard, and OS. For a display it will connect to a regular home TV set.

Now $199 might not sound like a lot of money, but in rural areas of China the average YEARLY take home income is $500. Although I am a huge advocate of spreading technology and think the personal computer bundled with the internet has a greater impact on society then the Gutenberg press, spending people to spend more then a third of a yearly income to be connected is going to be a VERY tough sell.
