Do you have a Facebook? The CIA Knows

As a willful citizen of the web 2.0 *yawn* continuum, there is a lot of information about myself all over the net. Publications, photos, articles; they’re all there for anyone to see. But one thing that many people (about 2 billion) like myself hold to be true is the ability to control some of that information- namely profiles on networking sites. Who knows how your information is being used?

Myspace, Orkut, Facebook each allow you to (and encourage you strongly to) put much of your personal information up on their site. But what else is the information being used for?

We know Myspace is owned my Rupert Murdoch, Orkut is owned by Google and Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg. We also know that willingly putting up information is like leaving the front door of your house wide open.

But the real question is who really owns Facebook? Where has their VC investment stream come from? And what can they do with personal information?

This flash video goes through the trail leading to the funding of what is known today as Facebook, with tens of millions of members. Who knew that the CIA indirectly funded the explosive growth of Facebook?

    O SHI-

The worst part is how Facebook holds a gun to your head and forces you to input your personal information.

Ya know what… If my favorite quotes, music, movies, and endless questionnaires about whether or not I prefer Pepsi to Coke are of that much importance to the government then let em have at it!

What the hell do people put on those sites that holds any significance anyway?! Your putting it out there for millions to see and then get upset that the government can read it too?

    I don’t get it.

How is it holding a gun to your head? You don’t NEED to have facebook!

I know. A government agent told me that I had written stuff that I shouldn’t have after a… visit. I removed it right away, but I know the gov tracks facebook from personal experience. No, it wasn’t the CIA, though.

Alan, would you be willing to divulge further details about that encounter? I am compiling an editorial for my site at MonopolyMen.com and it would be good to get a personal anecdote from someone who had experienced direct involvment with the data miners, rather than just talk about the potential risk. Email me at [rex} at monopolymen {dot] com.

I guess the whole point of data mining these sites is for market research. The more the government knows about the people, the easier they can manipulate the population. It’s a bit like market research. In fact, it IS market research – the US government is a CORPORATION!

But hey, it’s all good, right?

I permanently removed my facebook when i learned this.
Scary when you think about all the info “they” could get on you just from facebook.

The fact that “they” now own and use facebook against the civilians is not surprising, however, it is very disturbing/frightening.

The government probably uses this data to locate individuals, learn routines/habits…etc. etc.
But they also most-likely use it to see if their “agenda” is being met, meaning are the American people falling for the bullshit they’re being spoon-fed on a daily basis via their local “news”/”lamestream(mainstream) media”
