Charge your USB device on a plane

A godsend for anyone who travels with a USB chargeable device. For example, we are all aware of the iPod videos less then desirable battery performance, especially when it comes to video. So, on a long multi-hour flight you can probably expect your iPod to die before you land.

Not anymore, thanks to the CLEVER device. The Inflight Power cable uses an internal trickle charger to output power to an attached device USB device. The only instructions that you need to know is that the audio volume at your seat must be cranked to the maximum to provide the best results. Now this is no replacement for the power outlets on Virgins new fleet, but its better then nothing! The InFlight Power USB Unit is available for $34.99.

This iis a better alternative than their POS shite car lighter look-a-like plugs that aren’t.. Adapters for these cost $140

apparently Wired just tested these and weren’t too impressed. of course i didn’t hear that until after i ordered one yesterday morning. I don’t have the Wired link, but it was recently linked to via the Oh Gizmo blog so if you care it should be reasonably easy to track down.

Is that a 3.5mm plug I see? So you can charge from any 3.5mm jack cranked up at full volume?
I wouldn’t be too impressed with this either, not unless it provides a constant 5V :P
