The $298 Windows Vista Machine

This has to be the lowest price for a PC that I have ever seen. Wal-Mart is selling an Everex IMPACT GC3502 (Now THATS a brand name!). It comes with Windows Vista Home Basic (Read Useless) and OpenOffice.org 2.2 (Which isn’t that bad) installed on a system that includes a 1.5GHz VIA C7 CPU (*COUGH*), 1GB of DDR-2 SDRAM, an 80GB hard drive, a DVD burner, and integrated graphics, as well as a keyboard, mouse, and speakers.

Now mind you that this is not the most high tech computer in the world, but it is almost half of what the lowest price Dell comes in at. Honestly, this PC would be perfect for an older relative who just wants to surf the web and get email. Throw in AVG antivirus and you have a deal.

    you havnt seen the frys 99$ PC, big diff here is the RAM included. Frys cheapy pc’s are like 256mb and no OS. Vista home can be had for like 100 bucks making frys kaka cheaper, we got way too many of those turd CPUS

    Now the way to get the cheapest machine, this with 512mb ram and some form of Linux since no license to pay. Then do what you want with it.

    VIA CPU’s aren’t all that bad. They suck hardcore at rendering anything more complex then a desktop, but they can preform slightly faster than their intel counterparts with simple tasks.
    Perfect for building a friend a 100$ PC that will only be used for wordprocessing and netsurfing.
    Really should be running linux though.

    The only problem with comparing VIA chips with their Intel counterparts is that the Intel counterparts were made more than a few years ago. It’s been a long time since Intel has made chips in that performance range.
