Sony Sues SunnComm Over RootKit CD’s

Sony to hopefully put an end to the whole root kit DRM nightmare has sued Amergence Group Inc. formally SunnComm for developing defective poisonous antipiracy software for CDs to settle consumer complaints and government investigations.

Sony BMG is seeking to recover some $12 million in damages from the Phoenix-based technology company, according to court papers filed July 3. [...] The music company accuses Amergence of negligence, unfair business practices and breaching the terms of its license agreement by delivering software that “did not perform as warranted.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m sure SunnComm wasn’t the one who made the rootkit DRM. That was First4Internet(now called Fortium Technologies) who did that. The MediaMax DRM from SunnComm was spyware, not a rootkit.

In the first paragraph, you said “formally SunnComm”, which means “officially SunnComm”. You probably meant “formerly SunnComm”, which means “use to be SunnComm”.
